Venus, also known as Sol II, is the second planet from Sol and the 7th largest planet in the Solar System. It famously has the densest atmosphere of all the terrestrial planets, appearing a stark white nearly everywhere but it's terminator, and being the only inhabited plane to orbit inferiorly to Earth, alongside being the brightest object in the night sky (other than Sol and Luna) garnering it a reputation in many cultures throughout human history and persisting to the late 21st century. Venus is the home of five colossal platforms which are large, floating cities that rest above the hostile, acidic atmosphere and provide habitation. Established on December 9th, 2067, the Colonial Administration of Venus, abbreviated as CAV, governs Venus' population of 4.7 million.

Venus and it's population hold a reputation of decadence second only to that of Earth itself, firstly living on trillion-credit platforms on the bleeding edge of science, alongside hosting many commercial entities both interplanetary corporate alongside entertainment, fashion and other retail commerces, expensive real estate on the basis of the Venusian sights, and the single largest gambling identity and economy in the entirety of Sol, beating out Earth entirely. This reputation has garnered Venus the nickname of 'space vegas' in light of their immense gambling. During the Martian Revolution, while Earth became the Martian symbol of oppression, Venus became the Martian symbol of corruption.

Colonisation

Venus' surface is exceptionally hostile and inhospitable to human life, bearing thick, toxic clouds and scorching temperatures on it's surface. During the colonisation of Luna and Mars, it was widely believed Venus would never be colonised for this fact, until a joint cooperation between the United Nations and the now-defunct Venjent Industrial and Manufacturing came together in a multi-trillion dollar project to establish colony bases on Venus which sit far above the surface in enormous floating cities. These cities, now oftentimes referred to as "Platforms", were to rest buoyantly in the sky from helium stored in massive tanks encircling the perimeters of the platforms, whilst also simultaneously being tied to the ground by multiple 5-inch-thick composite cables buried 152 metres into the surface. Originally criticised as a potential waste of credits, and having some accidents during its early phases, the process of the Venusian Colony Project was one of hardship until the initial four platforms were unveiled on October 18th, 2067, a few months before the establishment of the Colonial Administration of Venus on December 9th. Four platforms were created in the initial unveiling, but a fifth more advanced platform, Abraham, has been constructed since.

Many colonists, volunteers and otherwise civilians looking to find a new home made their way to Venus, contributing labour to the development of the Venusian colony. Commercial corporations made a particularly major foothold in the Venusian colonisation, which lead eventually to the reputation of Venusian decadence. The architecture of the Venusian cities had developed a unique style of their own much like the Martian colonies, having curved, sleek towers that appear like wisps of smoke; such architecture has made the colonies of Venus look almost alien compared to the geometric buildings present on Earth.

Platforms and Demographics

Galveston

A map of Venus, including the platforms and the orbits of major spacecraft.

Galveston is the first platform of Venus and one of the original four constructed in the UN-Venjent joint cooperation. It hosts the seat of government for the Colonial Administration of Venus and many of the other executive organs for the CAV, alongside a less-than-major commercial presence. Intended as the seat of colonial government from the beginning, Galveston has had little need for development since it's creation and has been incredibly stringent on real estate and retail development on the platform, making it's architecture somewhat dated compared to the rest of Venus and providing it with little in the way of civilian luxury. Though all the platforms are the same size (with the exception of Abraham) Galveston is generally regarded as the smallest by scale of housing. It also has the smallest population, and houses many frequented spaceports as it sometimes serves as a checkpoint for higher-end transits between Venus and the other colonies.

Galveston has little in the way of a reputation being the seat of the Colonial Administration, but is frequently remarked for it's stark dichotomy with the other platforms on Venus.

MacDonald

MacDonald is the second platform, holding enormous carbon dioxide (CO2) mining facilities alongside manufacturing and construction facilities. Additionally, MacDonald is the home of a thriving and rapidly growing research industry. With it's large and growing CO2 mining industry and recent focus into research and development, MacDonald has a large worker population and as a result, lower-end, more affordable housing. MacDonald was the 'first' platform established to exponentially increase the efficiency of the project by being a permanent location for manufacturing parts and equipment and housing workers for the project. As a result, there is a minor commercial presence on MacDonald with most of the space on the platform being delegated to industry and housing. For lower-income individuals and families on Venus, it has the most affordable housing and the most basic job opportunities to allow someone to get by, though Mars is generally regarded as a better place for lower-income individuals looking for housing and work.

MacDonald's population is viewed in the same vain as Mars, being hard-working individuals working for the benefit of people more rich than them. They lack, however, the reputation of being resourceful and resilient, and are often seen in a more depressing tone, though are renowned for being humble in their state.

Plutus

Plutus is the third platform, housing the largest casino district in the system. Plutus is responsible for giving Venus it's nickname 'space vegas'. Executives of many wealthy corporations and companies visit Plutus often to make connections and strike deals with other executives, alongside commercial entities having many stores along the surface of the Plutus platform. The casinos on Plutus have developed cutting-edge holographic gambling technology, selling a variety of portable holographic gambling devices that allow for users to gamble from anywhere. Advertising is omnipresent on Plutus particularly more than other platforms, with the platform's administrative organ looking to integrate commercial advertising into every single housing project and utility within the platform, additionally offering a subscription to remove advertising from one's household, to the behest of many. Holographic screens dot the sides of every building and control the corners of every screen interface. Additionally, Plutus is one of the only locations in Sol to openly condone gambling as a form of doctrine.

Plutus is the epicentre of the Venusian decadent reputation, and known largely as a terrible place to live omnipresent advertising, expansive slums and no place known to host peace and quiet, though has a wealth of housing, some lower-end but very affordable. In a general vain Plutus is known for hosting the heads of corporations or other businesspeople alongside squalid gamblers. More people travel to Plutus for gambling and shopping than the actual local population of the platform.

Sylvane

Sylvane is the fourth platform, renowned for it's enormous, green biodome in it's centre, Sylvane Park, which hosts several large gardens that grow a variety of flora from Earth, such as flowers, crops, trees, grasses, and ferns for sightseeing. Sylvane Park additionally has an approximately identical simulated recreation of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Sylvane Park started construction in 2077 as a clean-air site for Venusians some time after the platform's completion itself, with the original intention of Sylvane to be the host of a major horticultural location. In 2106, the Sylvane biodome began rapid expansion into a commercial park and finished construction in 2112. Besides it's focus on horticulture, Sylvane also possesses some of the cleaner shopping districts on Venus and less slums than Plutus, but still possesses some of the most exorbitant real estate pricing due to the expansive Sylvane Park.

Sylvane possesses a reputation mostly for it's exorbitant real estate prices, but is renowned for it's massive parks, sights unseen anywhere else in Sol except for Earth, the origin of the plant species housed there. Sylvane possesses a fairly small population but is also home to many vacation homes for the ultra-rich from other planets which very often go unused by them. Local residents of Sylvane are widely regarded to be the happiest in Venus, even those living in the slums of Sylvane.

Abraham

The Abraham platform is the fifth and largest platform, beginning construction in 2110, and finishing construction on June 1st, 2113. Abraham is home to massive housing complexes and apartments, which are expected to double Venus' population. Abraham was created in response to the cost of living on Venus by the Colonial Administration, with a larger surface to accommodate more affordable housing for the residents of Venus alongside advanced spaceports to allow them to travel throughout Venus. Abraham possesses a pre-planned layout of residential, industrial and commercial sectors, with the residential and commercial sectors being the largest. Alongside being the newest and largest platform, it also has the most advanced habitation technology. Many corporations have been stopped short of converting Abraham into a second Plutus, though few have given up attempts to fill the platform with casinos and advertising.

Abraham is far too young as a platform to have a reputation, but is widely regarded to be either a potential lifesaver for many Venusians, or a failed opportunity should it become a second Plutus.

History

In 2040, the United Nations and Venjent Construction and Manufacturing drafted a project for major colonies on Venus, a prospect previously believed to be infeasible. The effort began with the construction of a spaceport orbiting Venus to serve as the backbone for colonisation, swiftly finished in 2045. The CEO of Venjent Construction and Manufacturing, William Galveston, designed a platform that saw several enormous helium tanks attached to it, dubbed 'the petals', allowing it to float buoyantly. In addition to this, the design also included multiple 5-inch-thick composite cables that were buried 154.2 metres into the surface of Venus, dubbed 'the stem'. Two platforms were constructed with this model in mind at the same time - MacDonald and Galveston, the former being created first to exponentially increase the speed of development of Galveston and later platforms. The platforms began construction in 2047, with MacDonald completing in 2048 and Galveston in 2051. The rest of the platforms were constructed over a sixteen year period, with all platforms being completed in 2067 and Venus officially opened for colonisation. Commercial corporations made a large presence in Venus with entertainment and retail, quickly turning it into a bustling commercial colony. A number of ill-advised financial decisions on the part of William Galveston following the success of his project lead to Venjent Construction and Manufacturing filing for bankruptcy and becoming defunct in 2099.

On Plutus, many corporations planted casinos on the platform in a coordinated effort to create the single largest gambling hub in Sol since Vegas, creating the groundwork for Venus' moniker of Space Vegas. As the initial casinos quickly rose in wealth and fame, more and more casinos began to populate the platform, the Guovano crime family owning several of them. A rival criminal organization, the New Keys, began to target Guovano members within Plutus and other platforms. As time passed, their rivalry continued to develop, ultimately culminating in a firefight between several New Keys and Guovano members on November 1st, 2076, at the Coal Shoes Casino on the Plutus platform, which took the lives of 29 people, 21 of which were civilians caught in the crossfire. The incident, dubbed "Crimson Sunday", sparked widespread outrage and protest on both the Plutus and Galveston platforms. Protesters marched and demanded a more spread out, vigilant, and righteous police force to prevent another Crimson Sunday from occurring. As a result, the CAV unanimously passed CAV-B-A107, otherwise dubbed the "Strongbox Bill". The bill authorized the creation of a specialized law enforcement task force dedicated to hunting down and eradicating organized criminal syndicates. The task force, aptly named the Organized Crimes Division, was an instant success. Within it's first 5 years of operation, organized crime on Venus saw a 48% decrease.

In 2085, Venus' tourist rates had begun to significantly decline. As a result, the CAV announced the construction of the Sylvane Park on the Sylvane platform. Originally a clean-air biodome and minor horticultural retreat, many corporations gained the favour of th CAV and began constructing a gigantic complex of huge gardens that housed a variety of flora from earth, as well as a simulated recreation of a small portion of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Sylvane Park began construction in 2101, and finished in 2112 after 11 years. The design of Sylvane Park consists of an exterior biodome as well as a 6-floor structure on the ground akin to an ancient Mayan temple, simply referred to as 'the temple'. It boasts 6 agricultural terraces on the outside for every floor, with several holographic information displays and earth simulation rooms indoors. Additionally, the temple features an elevator as well as a 100-feet-tall circular tower sprouting out from the centre of the building. The tower bears 10 rings, all of which are spaced 10 feet apart and each have a diametre of 64 feet. Each ring hosts a multitude of flora from different regions of the earth, with specific rings representing specific regions.

Venus' population had been climbing for the previous decades, and the demand for further residential infrastructure rose alongside it. In 2109, the CAV unveiled their plans to construct the fifth, and largest platform yet; The Abraham platform, dedicated specifically to housing. In 2110, construction of the platform began. In 2113, the colossal platform finished construction, alongside several initial housing complexes.

Venusian Law Enforcement

Venusian Law Enforcement is the policing agency on Venus. It is a centralized police force, with it's headquarters being located on the Galveston platform. The VLE has one precinct on every platform, all equipped with small jails as well as aerial transports. The VLE has two specialized units, those being the Organized Crimes Division, abbreviated as OCD, and the Special Extreme Assault Regiment, abbreviated as SEAR. Both receive immense funding from the CAV, though, their funding has been decreasing in recent years as a result of the Abraham platform's development.

The OCD consists of officers and investigators who are trained in uncovering, investigating, and neutralizing organized criminal syndicates and potential members. The OCD was formed on November 7th, 2076 as a result of the Crimson Sunday incident. The OCD is mostly focused on the Plutus platform, keeping a keen eye on anyone or anything that is deemed suspicious. As a result, the OCD have gained a reputation for wrongfully arresting many people within Plutus, which is not an entirely inaccurate assessment as there have been many cases of gamblers being suspected as gang members and apprehended by the OCD.

SEAR is comprised of trained officers who specialize in ending high-risk incidents and preventing any or further casualties. Being the most militarized part of the VLE, SEAR units are equipped with the M7A3 carbine to have significant range and stopping power in any situation. They act as the next level up in escalation from the OCD, the two often working together in cases of armed crime or otherwise dangerous incidents throughout Venus. They possess various small craft capable of rapid transit between platforms and have often been equated to riot police of Earth.
